About Success Scholars Program
Success Scholars (formerly known as the CARE Program) was designed to assist students with their overall experience at ºÚÁÏÉç.
Upon joining Success Scholars, you will be assigned a Success CHAMP (Coaching that is Holistic, Appreciative, Multilayered, and Proactive), a staff and faculty coach, who play an essential role in retention initiatives at ºÚÁÏÉç. The membership of this group is a cross section of institutional divisions and focuses on student retention and success through delivery of excellent student support services. The success of this initiative is anchored on the collaborative partnerships amongst stakeholders in our community. The work of a Success CHAMP is to help you navigate and maximize the benefits of various academic and student life resources available to you at ºÚÁÏÉç.
Our Vision
The vision of Success Scholars is to support the University's educational mission to provide students a liberal arts education and to optimize students' use of ºÚÁÏÉç’s resources in collaboration with staff, faculty and key administrators to help students realize their academic and career goals. In addition, Success Scholars aspires to be the leading unit at ºÚÁÏÉç in developing retention initiatives and programming that helps students attain academic success.
The program will explore retention initiatives that focus on retaining at-risk students including first-time freshmen, sophomores and transfer students in collaboration with various departments at ºÚÁÏÉç. Success Scholars is open to other segments of the student population including students who identify themselves as in need of student support services, and students who could lose their status at the University. The initiative will fulfill this vision by providing its participants' excellent academic and direct support services through Individualized coaching and other support services that will help them become successful autonomous learners.
Our Mission
Success Scholars is a retention-centered initiative offered at ºÚÁÏÉç committed to empowering students to succeed at ºÚÁÏÉç and beyond. Success Scholars strives to utilize campus-wide resources to identify, evaluate. and retain students who join the initiative and receive coaching. The initiative, through the efforts of the Success Scholars team, will facilitate a student’s receipt of coordinated support services with the guidance of a faculty/staff CHAMP. At the conclusion of the Success Scholars experience, the student will be making self-sustaining progress towards graduation. Consequently, the initiative will inspire its participants to become lifelong learners, active citizens and empower them to lead in a diverse and global community.
Overall Initiative Goal: To retain and graduate 80% of program participants.
The initiative has two other major goals. They are:
- Provide regular contact with and support to Success Scholar participants;
- Help participants become autonomous learners who can successfully manage their own college experiences.
