Final Clinical Practice Semester

What To Expect

Student Teaching is a prospective teacher鈥檚 internship, i.e. a full-term experience observing, planning, and teaching in an elementary, middle, or high school setting. It is partnered with EdTPA Capstone; a performance-based assessment taken during student teaching.  

If you have passed Clinical Practice II with a B- or better, finished your 100 hours of Fieldwork and have a GPA of 3.0 or above, you are eligible for Final Clinical Practice/Student Teaching in the Spring or Fall semester.

Student Teacher Kick-off meeting (MANDATORY):

After CP II, between semesters:

  • for Spring it will be in the middle of December.
  • for Fall, it will be at the end of August.

Please check with the office, if considering time away during those times.

You should have applied to Final Clinical Practice at the same time as applying for CP II last semester. However, if you need to request a change of placement, the deadlines for that are

  • April 1st to apply for the next Fall semester
  • October 1st to apply for the next Spring Semester

Stop-outs: If you have stopped out of 黑料社 or the Education program for a semester or more and are trying to enter Final Clinical Practice, please contact your preceptor. For questions betwen July 1-Sept 1, email Jennifer.houser@stockton.edu. 

If you have to change your placement, you can do so by submitting a placement form in Exxat.

Make an appointment with your preceptor(s) on precepting days:

  • Fall Semester: Late October/Early November
  • Spring Semester: Late March/Early April

You can find the name(s) of your preceptor(s) on your Degree Works. Liberal Studies students will have only ONE preceptor, the one for Education. All other majors have a preceptor for their major area AND one for Education. These students MUST meet with BOTH preceptors.

Certification

  • The School of Education will contact you about license intake.
  • Do NOT apply on your own with the NJDOE.
  • Teacher Certificates - As of May 15, 2015 paper certificates will no longer be issued. All information about certificates is now online including certificate name, certificate ID number, date of issuance, and expiration date if applicable.  Instructions to view this information can be found at .
